A guitar lets you carry your music with you. It makes up for a steeper learning curve with an exponentially higher coolness factor.
The acoustic guitar is a staple of social performances, but once you go deep into it, you are introduced to a ton of possibilities: accompany yourself while singing, play various genres like blues, jazz, country, pop, fingerstyle, etc., or pick up a nylon string guitar and go the classical route.
Expect sore fingertips for the first fortnight — that passes as calluses form. Most beginners are changing between three chords in time by around week six, and playing a full song from start to finish, slowly, by the end of the third month. Speed comes after accuracy, never before it.

What you need to get started
A short list, with nothing exotic on it. If you are unsure whether the instrument you already own will work, show it to the teacher in the demo class.
Minimum age
8+
Our recommended starting age for guitar. There is no upper limit — adult beginners are welcome in every course.
Instrument and gear
An acoustic guitar (nylon or steel string) in playable condition
Bring what you own to the demo class. We will tell you plainly whether it is enough to start on, and what is worth upgrading later.
Your setup
A laptop, tablet or phone, headphones, and a steady internet connection
Classes are live video, one-on-one. A second camera angle helps on hands-on subjects, and a phone propped up against a book does the job.
